The French have always been known to have a passion for food. It is revered and considered an art form like a fine oil painting, or high fashion. The cuisine itself has evolved through the centuries but the dedication to excellence has never changed. The forefathers of the French way of cooking had kings and queens to please so failure was not an option. This tradition of quality and perfection and attention to detail has not been lost as techniques in the cooking changed. With Haute (high) or later, nouvelle (new) cuisine, the trends in preparation and the ingredients changed but the pursuit of perfection never has.

Nouvelle cuisine isn’t really “new.” It has been around since the mid 1700′s with early French chefs Chapel and Menon and later in the late 1800′s with the famous Auguste Escoffier. With the standards set by royal tastes early in their history the great French chefs of today and the nation itself pride themselves on quality food. The French will typically take a 2 hour meal (and usually wine) break in the middle of the day and as a result the towns do as well. Love, life and food are central parts of their culture.

French cuisine is highlighted by rich sauces(cream, butter, wine) ,fresh ingredients, and artful presentation. Techniques like saute, braising, and flambes were not invented by the French but rather, refined and mastered by them. There are sauces that are classic French cuisine such as Bearnaise, Hollandaise, and Au Jus. There are dishes such as Coqua vin(chicken in red wine), Bouillabaisse(fish soup), and Escargots Bourguignon(snails baked with butter and parsley) and the list goes on and on. This is French cuisine and what makes it so famous is that it is uniquely French and the focus is not just on the ingredients but on the technique and the quality.

Quality of the products used and the whole experience of enjoying a fine meal. Although the classic French cuisine is rooted in discipline and culinary procedures handed down for many years, the younger French trained chefs today are innovative and move the form in new directions. They use the classical French idea of using locally available ingredients and prepare them with the traditional sauces with new twists. This annoys some of the older guard of French chefs that claim it changes the perception of French Cuisine. Others feel that French cuisine itself is a style and an attitude with basic components that cannot be changed. The dynamics of the cuisine itself however demand that it evolve like it has for hundreds of years. One thing for certain is that French cuisine is famous for quality combined with style and it sure tastes good!

When people ask me how I save so much money, they never believe how simple the answer is. Simply cooking your meals at home has such a profound impact on your budget, it has got to be the number one way to cut costs without sacrificing anything. By simply cooking more meals you will absolutely save hundreds of dollars per month. Depending on your habit, you may even save more than hundreds of dollars per week. You don’t even realize that on an average day, where all you get is a fast food meal and Starbucks in the morning, you’ve already dropped 10 dollars on horrible food. That’s already 300 dollars per month – Do you get where I’m going with this?

Here are some things you NEED to pick up and start working with in your kitchen. These are basic staples that can be used to create thousands of different recipe ideas, and help you learn how to be a better cook:

Eggs

Bread

Oil (sunflower, vegetable)

Rice

Pasta

Canned Beans

Various spices (salt, pepper, a few others)

Tomato/Pasta sauce

Meat that’s ON SALE

Vegetables that are ON SALE

For breakfast (god forbid you wake up 5-10 minutes earlier) you can make dozens of things with eggs. Overeasies, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, 500 different omelletes, on bread, by themselves, etc.

For lunch you can make pasta, rice, chicken/turkey sandwiches, anything – And you can bring it with you to work.

For dinner, pasta and rice combined with various meats, vegetables, and spices can be combined into thousands of dinner ideas. For specific recipes simply google “chicken dish”, or “cooking with rice”. It isn’t complicated – there are hundreds of recipes that are nearly impossible to screw up, even for virgin cooks.

Some of these meals will only cost you 50 cents when you look at the ingredients. Rice is dirty cheap and a staple around the world, yet neglected in the west. The possibilities are endless – Believe it or not you can eat well for less than 3 dollars per day. If you get a drink from starbucks in the morning, eat lunch out somewhere, then pick something up for dinner (or make a frozen meal), you’re spending close to 15-20 dollars without realizing it. That’s 600 dollars a month. How much can you save? You do the math. I just recently got a good friend and my sister on this plan, and they’re paying their rent with the difference.

This subject is interesting, confusing, and enlightening. I had never heard of a Vegan until recently. I am sure they have been around for years but this old country boy had never heard of them. Of course I had heard of a vegetarians, everyone in California was a vegetarian, at least I thought they were. The conception of a Californian to this Mississippi boy was they didn’t eat meat, had tattoos, dodged bullets from the gangs, and smoked dope while the earth shook from an earthquake. Yes, that is stretching it a little but the idea of not eating meat seemed down right sinful.

Today I still eat meat but not as much. I do eat a lot more vegetables but it took getting used to them. My idea of vegetables consisted of green beans from a can, an occasional salad (lettuce only with Thousand Island dressing) and a baked potato. Today I eat a wide variety of vegetables including spinach and a bunch of vegetables with names I can’t even spell. I have learned to like eating various vegetable in numerous ways, including stir-fry. Now hear me, I still like my hamburgers, steak and chicken but after researching the facts about red meat I am leaning hard toward becoming a vegetarian not a vegan but a vegetarian.

The difference in a vegan and a vegetarian consist in the beliefs of each individual. However, there is movement related to veganism of which you can join.

I am going to be exploring this subject in detail but not today. So, keep watching for more articles on this subject.

I have been scouting for alternatives to commercial sports and protein drinks for a while. The reason is because just about all energy drinks and protein drinks on the market are full of sweeteners and artificial additives. I don’t know about you but I don’t think drinking anything containing artificial ingredients at a time when your body needs the nutrients the most is going to benefit you short term and definitely not long term.

Here is how to make Power Tea

This tea can be used for anyone and not just athletes. One of the main ingredients is Gelatin, Gelatin from Beef is the preferred choice but unless you live in the U.S.A. it can be difficult to get hold of. At the time of writing this I am not aware of anyone in the E.U. selling Gelatin from Beef. If anyone reading this knows anyone who supplies Gelatin from Beef in Europe please leave a comment below.

To make Power Tea dissolve one to two level tablespoons of Great Lakes Gelatin per cup of boiling water. If you prefer you could mix it into a little water at room temperature just before adding the boiling water.

You can flavour the tea with ginger; ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory herb. Or you could use peppermint herbal tea or both. You can also add half a tablespoon of coconut oil with each tea.

On the other hand you don’t need to do either, you can just drink it straight. Power tea can be consumed 3 times daily and a way to make it convenient is to make a thermos with 3 cups in the morning and drink it throughout the day.

Power tea builds strong and powerful ligaments, tendons, cartilage and muscle. It can also help enhance mental and emotional power. The tea is complete protein and high in amino acids, your body will be able to absorb and make the most of all of it.

If you are a lean athlete in intensive training you may add 2 teaspoons of dextrose per cup of Power Tea.

Restaurants are great opportunity to gather people under single roof and provide dishes of diversified regions. Restaurants not only provide meals but also a complete ambiance that comforts people. Food can be enjoyed any where even at less prices but people prefer food in restaurants because of the setting and environment that they provide to people. They offer wide range of food items from continental to modern. Various types of salads, appetizers, soups, pastas are extensively available along with fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Everyone can enjoy according to their delight.

Restaurants of Islamic World: These existed throughout the Islamic world before their origin in China. In these old days, all prepared dishes were available. In the 10th century, these were first told by Al-Muqaddasi. These old Islamic restaurants serve three meals per day involving the varieties of soups, main dishes as well as desserts.

Types: There are many types available ranging from highly inexpensive to expensive one. Some offer proper catering services with refined food items in a formal way to the customers. Whereas, others provide simple lunch and dinner with simple food items at inexpensive rated. These simple foods are served in a casual and informal setting. The customers of formal settings are also formal looking or semi formal depending on their traditions and cultures. On the other hand, the later use simple and casual clothing.

In most of the formal settings, customers usually order to the waiter about the food they want. There are also hosts and hostess to welcome the customers.

Some restaurants also have specific items and they are known as the specialist of certain foods. For example vegetarian restaurants, sea food restaurants and ethnic varieties are widely available. The local hotels usually offer all the varieties available. On the other hand Italian, Chinese and French restaurants offer some particular foods of their area.

Advantages: There are many advantages that restaurants offer to its customers. First of all it offers a wide range of food items that are not possible to cook at home in a single time. So, you can enjoy food without passing through the inconvenient procedures of cooking. Moreover, they provide attractive environment according to the needs of their clients. They also offer the exact tastes of specific dishes of any particular area. That is not possible to create for everyone.

Disadvantages: Beside several advantages there are many drawbacks of eating in hotels and restaurants. These cost expensive as compared to foods prepared at home. At home we can easily produce food that is affordable. Restaurants charge much more than that. Moreover, you may have calm environment at your home. It is not essential that the same environment you experience there. They may offer loud back ground music as well as the noise of the people enjoying and eating there. All these factors may irritate for some people. Health factors are another important drawback of restaurant’s food items. You can not judge that who is preparing the meals, what is putting while preparation and cooking. No one can make it sure that proper health and hygiene is considered or not. So, some people may develop gastric problems with wide use of outdoor foods.

If you’re a lover of Japanese food, you’re undoubtedly familiar with sushi, tempura, teriyaki, and other common Japanese food fare, but in this article I’d like to introduce you to three delicious Japan food items that you might not yet have heard of. All of these foods are both common and popular in Japan (not to mention delicious!), but have not yet found their way to the masses overseas in the same way that sushi has. Trust me, though, it’s just a matter of time before they do!

1. Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki Japanese pancake is a popular food item in Japan at restaurants, festivals and home parties. Translated literally as “cook what/as you like,” okonomiyaki is especially fun to eat at restaurants and home parties, where participants gather around a flat grill, mix up the ingredients, and have fun cooking the pancakes themselves.

The okonomiyaki pancake batter consists of flower, eggs, water, grated yam, and cabbage. Fillings include pork, assorted seafood, vegetables, kimchi, cheese, mochi, and yakisoba. Toppings and seasonings include nori seafood flakes, katsuobushi (fish flakes), pickled ginger, mayonnaise, and a Worcestershire-like sauce.

2. Takoyaki

Japanese Takoyaki is a snack of grilled octopus balls consisting of a pancake-like batter and a little piece of octopus as a filling. The dumpling batter is poured into a special pan molded into rows of little semi-circles and grilled for a few minutes on one side. Then the balls are flipped over with a toothpick or chopsticks and grilled on the other side until golden brown.

The takoyaki are then served up, usually in portions of 8 or so, in a plastic or paper container and topped with a sweet soy-based sauce and ingredients like green onion, pickled ginger, green onion, mayonnaise, and katsuobushi (dried fish shavings).

3. Onigiri Rice Balls

Onigiri rice balls are a favorite picnic and snack food in Japan. Onigiri is a popular carry out food item in Japanese convenience stores, and is a common item found in bento boxed lunches. Simple to make and delicious to eat, onigiri is a staple food item in Japan.

Popular onigiri fillings include tuna salad, salmon flakes, seafood salad, konbu (a type of sea vegatable), umeboshi (a sour bright-red pickled Japanese plum), and shrimp tempura.

If you’re planning to travel to Japan, make sure to keep an eye out for these delicious Japan food items and give them a try!

As you’re deciding to get water dispenser, you need to think about whether you want to get one with a bottle or without. You will find advantages and disadvantages to each depending on what kind of water you have to start with. One one hand you can see the convenience of not having to buy and store large water jugs. But on the other you may have water in your home or business that is difficult to easily treat or filter.

The way a water dispenser works that has no bottle is that it will take water from lines feeding the rest of your home or business. The dispensing unit will then typically filter the water before running it into the chilling or heating sections. This helps make the water a little safe and taste better for drinking or mixing. It gives you more peace of mind for making tea, hot chocolate, or mixing with drink powders.

The downside of these bottle-less dispensers is that they can’t do the heavy duty cleaning that some water sources need. If water is coming from a source that is heavily contaminated or has a lot of sediments then the filter in these units will not be adequate. In the worst case harmful toxins could get through a filter, or the filter could just get clogged up from a high level of particulate.

This is where bottled water dispensers really work well. Since you are bringing the water from an outside source you don’t have to worry about the quality of the incoming water. Bottled water dispensers also have the convenience of chilled and hot water spigots. The only down side you would be looking at here is the expense of getting the water to your home or business, and finding a place to store the jugs. But this is minor compared to having health issues or bad tasting water for your coworkers or family.

You can continue here to find the right bottled water dispenser. See why not every bottle water cooler is not created the same.

Is Paying Extra For Bottled Water Delivery Worth the Convenience Over Getting it From the Store

When you have a bottled water dispenser you have to deal with getting that water into the house. In many cases people will opt for the convenience of having the water delivered. But there is also the option of going to the store on your own and getting the water yourself. While you may be able to save some money by carrying the water yourself, you may be losing out on time and effort.

More stores are making it easier for people to get filtered water or even water purified through reverse osmosis while grocery shopping. They have stations set up where you can fill your own jugs for much less than buying pre-filled containers. In most cases you will be able to buy the jugs there as well or pay a deposit the container. Then when you return with the empty jug you just exchange it for a clean, sterilized one and fill it.

The money is save by you doing the labor. You have to fill the jugs yourself. They typically come in one and five gallon sizes, so if you’re filling a five gallon jug you need to be strong enough to lug it around with you. Not only do you have to get it to the checkout, but then you get it to your car. And once you get home you carry it from the car to your home. It gets even more difficult if you have several containers to deal with.

The convenience you pay for with delivered water is that someone else does the filling and delivery to your home. All you need to do at that point is find a place to store both the full and empty jugs. It may cost a little more, but you get to spend your time on more important things and save a trip to the chiropractor for your back.

You can continue here to find the right bottled water dispenser. Have you seen the latest in what’s available for a stainless steel water cooler?

The health benefits of Japanese cuisine are widely known. Japanese people live longer than those in just about any other country. Sushi is now eaten throughout the West, and protein-packed tofu is available at many local supermarkets. Many people in the West drink green tea on almost a daily basis.

But Japanese food consists of a lot more than sushi, tofu and green tea. Visit Japan and you will find many items you have never seen before. But much of this is available in the West as well, at Japanese restaurants and at Asian supermarkets.

Here are five foods that you may not know, but which, for your health’s sake, you ought to try. Be adventurous. Your body will thank you for it.

* Atsu-age – these are cakes of deep-fried tofu, and are often available where regular tofu is available. They are probably best described as tofu for Westerners who don’t like tofu. Deep frying in oil gives them a nutty texture and crunch, yet, inside, this food retains the softness and smoothness of fresh tofu, along with all the health benefits.

* Katsuo-bushi – this is dried flakes of the cooked bonito fish, and resembles wood shavings. It is absolutely delicious when used as a stock for soup or stews. Like tofu, it is full of protein. You should find it sold in large packages at good Asian supermarkets. It is also available in powder form.

* Gobo – the English name for this root vegetable is burdock. It has been used in China and Japan for many centuries as a medicine. Many people believed it could help recovery from illness, as well as boost energy. Today it is reputed to lower cholesterol. You may find it available canned, but if possible buy it fresh and stew or fry.

* Kikuna – this is a type of edible chrysanthemum leaves, also known as shungiku. It can be eaten raw, but is more commonly included in stews, or deep-friend as tempura. Take care not to overcook, or the taste may become bitter. It is said to be good for fevers.

* Daikon – the giant white radish is one of the most common ingredients in Japanese cooking. It is commonly included in stews of all kinds, and is also a regular garnish with sushi and many other uncooked dishes. It is also often added to dipping sauces, such as for tempura. It is a short stumpy vegetable, and so ingrained is it in Japanese culture that people with fat legs are said to have “daikon legs.” The best daikon has a somewhat sharp taste, but often it is rather bland, although it is absolutely delicious when pickled. It is so important in Japanese cooking that you should be able to find it any Asian supermarket that sells fresh produce. It is especially good in aiding digestion, particularly for oily foods.

Adding soymilk to your diet is easy–you’ll find it’s an acceptable substitution for cow’s milk in almost any situation. Try the following suggestions and you’ll find yourself consuming significantly more soymilk and significantly fewer dairy products.

Uses For Plain Soymilk

Substitute plain, unflavored soymilk in baking recipes, cooking recipes and anywhere you use cow’s milk. Pour soymilk over cereal. The only places you won’t want to use soymilk will be recipes that call for cream, which is thicker than soymilk.

Uses For Flavored Soymilk

Flavored soymilk usually comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors. It’s perfect for milkshakes, french toast, crepes, cereal or serving with fresh cut fruit, such as blueberries or strawberries and cream. After working out, use flavored soymilk, with or without a scoop of soy protein powder, as the perfect recovery drink. Try a cup of vanilla soymilk over a cup of homemade granola for a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack.

Recipe for Delicious Soymilk French Toast

Ingredients You Will Need:

2 eggs

1 cup vanilla soymilk1 cup fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced

teaspoon ground cinnamon

teaspoon ground nutmeg

3 tablespoons butter

8 slices bread

1 cup fresh whipped cream (homemade is best)

cup confectioner’s sugar

Beat eggs until foamy. Add soymilk, cinnamon and nutmeg and beat well. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet. Dip two slices of bread into soymilk and egg mixture; immediately fry in butter on medium heat for approximately two minutes per side. Top with fresh strawberries and whipped cream; sprinkle confectioner’s sugar on top. Enjoy!
